Durham NC, February 25, 2016 – On February 27th, Bull City Forward will be hosting a free, half-day training and information event “Transform Your Life Through Entrepreneurship”. This event is for unconventional entrepreneurs, many living on modest means, who lack access to support needed to develop a thriving business. This includes high level users of social services in our region who are struggling to break free of poverty. Our intention is to create an environment in which individuals become financially self-sufficient through entrepreneurship. This event will be held at Duke’s Innovation and Entrepreneurship Bullpen at 215 Morris Street, Suite 300, in Durham NC.

The event will include a series of talks designed to inform and connect individuals to the resources they need to take the next step in developing a business and becoming economically self-sufficient. Joe Bushfan of Joe’s Diner, Mildred “Mama Dip” Council, and Daniel Whittaker of Green Planet Catering will be key note speakers at this event. BCF also hopes to use the event to gain more knowledge about what this group of entrepreneurs needs in their next stages of development and be able to offer them support over the next six months.

Over 15% of Triangle residents survive with incomes below the poverty line – that means that a family of 4 with one working adult is living on less than $23,000/year. There is no lack of business creativity, skill, nor motivation within those living with humble means. What is missing is access and knowledge, things often taken for granted by many of us. At Bull City Forward, we believe that many of these individuals can become more self-reliant through entrepreneurship.
